Long morning at the neurologist. The best part is that the doctor talked with us for 1:45, so we felt like she addressed our concerns.
The best guess for now from her end: on September 6, Kass hit her head on the side of the pool while diving. Because of the family history of migraines, this "trauma" might have sent Kass into a chronic migraine condition. She is going to treat the headaches as migraines, attempt to stop the continuous pattern, and hopes to take her off the medication within 6 months. At that time, she's hoping that OTC meds will be enough to combat occasional migraines, if/when they occur.
As far as the cyst is concerned, the doctors seem to be viewing the headaches and the brain cysts as unrelated. The neurologist arranged an appointment for the neurosurgeon. If the migraine medications "cure" the headaches, then the cyst will be one of those things that goes untreated. I asked her opinion on the cyst several times, but she simply wouldn't really comment - other than to refer us to the neurosurgeon. From what we gather, we are guessing that it's going to be a wait and see approach, and that the neurosurgeon won't think the cyst is related to the headaches.
We are hopeful that the medication will bring relief quickly, and that we can ignore the cyst. For now, Kass is trying to catch up on homework, but she is falling (what feels like) perilously behind. This causes more stress / tension, which aggravates the headaches...again, try to stop the pattern.
We'll keep praying. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeletePraying that the medication solves the problem and for peace for all of you.
