Surgery at 10

Thank for your prayers. WE ARE receiving your many messages, and appreciate them. Please understand if I don't respond right now. Also - family - I'm not answering my phone because I'm waiting for the OR nurse to call. Yes, yes, I have call waiting, but ... I guess this just isn't a call waiting situation.

Kass went into surgery at 10. We've heard everything from 4-6 hours, so we ran over to Ronald McDonald House to check in. In the hospital lobby, there is also a smaller RMcD Center that has a kitchen (free soup for lunch!) and laundry. Kevin and I are hanging out downstairs because the "waiting room" is packed. So for now, it's just us, the volunteer, and watching ice melt in our cups.

The latest MRI showed that the cyst is going down her brain stem and in her C1 spine. Dr's plan was to drill through some of the C1 to get to the cyst. I asked if he would remove the C1 and put it on a chain like a shark tooth. **Funny watching people's expressions when they don't really know me! :) The recent MRI also showed that there is not a normal flow of fluid through the spinal cord. We are hopeful that once he "pops" the cyst, the headaches will go away. Also, he only wants to "pop" the fluid to get things flowing again; he was going to attempt to avoid removing/cutting anything. He doesn't want to cut the brain or spinal cord. Good call!! After the anesthesiologist gave Kass a "margarita", we had a good time playing charades with Kimber. I took a picture and she asked me to post it on FB, but we're going to wait for her to be a little more lucid before making those decisions. That being said, it was a good way to break the tension, and Kimber's charade of Snoopy was pretty classic Kim.

Laura and Kimber went home to do school as soon as she was rolled past the "hugs and kisses corner". The Dr. had a handy dandy syringe in his pocket, and gave her another cocktail. Ironic that as she was drifting off, we went on high alert. Doctor said she'll be sitting soon, and can start eating as soon as she asks. No food or other restrictions. There's a Starbucks 1/2 mile away. The only question is: will she want a tall or a grande??

  1. No worry responding to my emails...I know you are waiting, waiting, waiting...It is now 3:14 pm...Jason and Jennah anticipate each post. Jason said, "She (meaning you) have amazing faith because you are a missionary." What a testimony your family has to many. Kassie is the Head and not the Tail. The Lord is the VICTOR in the Battle! Praise YOU, Jesus! Your family is moving to another level of faith!Thanksgiving and praise to the Lord!
