Well, late last night I had the epiphany that it was actually the second day of Christmas. As soon as I thought, "Two Turtle Doves", an image popped in my mind. Try as I may to think of something sweet and quaint, I could never shake that original thought.
As Kevin and I rested cat-dog in Kass' ICU room all night on a tiny sofa, all I could picture was two doves crammed inside one turtle shell with their heads poking out a mountain of blankets and pillows. We contemplated whether knees were more obnoxious poking the belly or stabbing the spine. Never in my life had I slept with my head, two hands, and two feet on my pillow. Every time we heard a peep from Kass, we would pop up and scramble to get to her bed. Reminiscent of I Love Lucy, it was like the episode where Lucy casually said, "it's time," and the gang goes berserk. We kind of find ourselves in a pattern; if there is something to do, it's my job. If there was something to watch, it's Kevin's job. Since Kevin is the Electronics Master in our house, he was in charge of finding the nurse every time the bell went off on the machines. (Alarms and headaches are NOT a good combo!) Kevin stood by her side every time she had her lines messed with - which was quite often! The highlight: once when it was my "turn", I stepped out of the blankets just as Kevin rolled and pulled them around his shoulder. My foot got tangled, and I literally flew into her bed, catching myself on her railing. I tried to pull it off with a hushed smile, "Yes, honey", but she didn't buy it. The lowlight: watching your baby struggle.
The doctors are well pleased with her progress, and want to move her to the floor. We'll see how the day goes. Her head hurts, obviously, but it is what it is.
Thanks for your prayers and warm wishes. If Kass had a specific prayer request, it would be that I stop using puns. e.g. "Do you have to use the bedpan, Sweet Pea?" I TRULY do not know I'm doing it, but I'm so thankful that her mind is sharp enough to pick up on the nuances of the English language.
We're all reading and praying. Love you.

Once you write something in the comment section, select "Google account" from the drop down, and then hit "publish". You may have to do that twice. It will then take you to the Google sign-in. After signing in, hit "publish" again after entering the security code. Once you get the hang of it, it's not that hard.
